A practical employee onboarding checklist covering before day one, the first day, the first week and the first months.

Updated 1 November 2026 · talk.app

Before day one.

Send logistics, a welcome from the manager and access details. Prepare equipment, accounts and a buddy.

A short welcome video from the leader or team makes a first impression.

The first week.

Introduce people, tools and expectations in small steps. Give a clear plan for each day and one person to ask.

Cover safety and compliance early, in short modules, rather than in one long session.

The first months.

Check in at set points. Share role-specific training, and ask new starters what is unclear.

Use their questions to improve the checklist for the next group.

Questions

Before you get in touch.

How long should onboarding last?

Plan for the first few months, with the heaviest support in the first weeks.

Can video replace live sessions?

It can carry the repeatable parts, leaving live time for people and questions.
